With just his voice and a violin, Randal reinterprets works by the likes of John Coltrane, Arcangelo Corelli, Elizabeth Cotton, Creedence Clearwater Revival … and that’s just the C’s!  He then wraps it all up in his Original Genre Bending Material that will tilt your head and tap your toes.

Randal grew up studying with Margery Aber, founder of the American Suzuki Institute, where he had masterclasses with Shinichi Suzuki and America’s pioneer Suzuki teachers from the conservatories of Eastman, Juilliard, Oberlin, etc.… He later studied with NEA Jazz Master Richard Davis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 

Early in his performing career, Randal’s father suggested to always “hire musicians better than you”. This advice lead to a fearless “life-long” education on stage while performing with such noteworthy musicians as Blue Note recording artists Dane Richeson and Ben Tucker, Legendary drummer Sam Lay of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Matrix founder, director, composer John Harmon, and The Funky Drummer himself, Clyde Stubblefield. His current groups include: the Randal Harrison Ensemble, Honor Among Thieves, Piper Road Spring Band and a Solo Experience of violin and voice that has been described as “Riveting”, “Emotional” and “I’ve never heard anything like it!”  

Randal Harrison Hoecherl is honored with a southeast EMMY nomination for composition, and MAMAs for Best Blues Artist, Classical Artist of the Year and Jazz Artist of the Year. 

He is a past president of the Suzuki Association of Wisconsin, founder of the Eclectic Suzuki Talent Education Association of Music (ESTEAM) and travels the world to work with students and colleagues - sharing ideas on improvisation and an eclectic mix of violin studies.
